Apple Mac Contact Management Software Comment
by Clint, Access Tours
Reading a review by Dan Frakes recently leads me to write with a question about contact, or database managers. In the early '90s, when our organization first felt compelled to join the computer world, we studied the PC vs. Mac question and went with Apple, wondering why anyone wouldn't. One of our needs was a way of managing our database, or mailing list, and an advisor suggested that Touch Base would satisfy our needs perfectly. Easy to use, yet with very good features. Much easier and nicer to use than say, Filemaker, which many people used and probably still do. The best advice we ever received regarding software. Later, Touch Base was purchased, as I recall, by whoever owned the competition, and after a succession of owners and morphing became Now Contact and Up-To-Date. The program remained nearly ideal and we had only a couple of gripes. It managed some 2000 contacts that we divided into about 15 categories. Finding a contact is nearly instantaneous in any category by clicking on an icon on the menu bar that allows you to find a contact or create a new one. Now, the company that owned the program is dead. My concern is, what are we going to do if we ever "upgrade" our system to 10.6 or later? There was concern originally that 10.5 would give trouble, but didn't, so for now we are sticking to 10.5.8. Do you know of a comparably good CRM program? The last time we searched, we couldn't find one. Others are too simple, too complex, and basically don't do a good job. I find this astonishing, since many thousands of individuals, small businesses, sales people, etc., have the same needs as we do. Do you know of any comparable software or of any on the horizon? There is certainly a big hole to fill by someone. If nothing else, I imagine the rights to Contact and Up-To-Date could be purchased and made current for the latest Mac systems. Maybe this question is one for an article? Bring the problem to light? Add or read comments about the Apple Mac Contact Management Software Comment below.
